WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump has promised swift and direct retaliation against ISIS following a deadly ambush in Syria that resulted in the deaths of three U.S. service members. The attack, which the former President described as a "terrible thing," also left three other service members wounded.
"We mourn the loss of three great patriots in Syria," Mr. Trump stated, confirming the tragedy. He elaborated that the incident was an "ambush" and later confirmed it was an "ISIS attack on us and Syria". The three wounded individuals are reported to be "doing pretty well".
The former President also touched on the relationship with local forces, noting that the Syrian forces were "fighting along with us". He added that the new Syrian president is "devastated by what happened".
When questioned on the U.S. response, Mr. Trump was unequivocal. Asked if the U.S. would retaliate against ISIS, he confirmed, "yeah we will". He issued a clear policy warning, stating that if U.S. forces are attacked again, "we will retaliate". The statement concluded with a message of prayer for the deceased troops, their parents, and loved ones.
